How to Manage Your Rotating Banner Ads
How to Manage Your Rotating Banner Ads
Rotating banner ads allow your website to dynamically serve multiple ads on your site. Here’s how to manage your rotating banner ad campaign.
Part 1
- Download (using ftp) or create the bannerad.txt file. This first file is for the ads on the upper portion of your site
- Download (using ftp) or create the bannerad2.txt file. This is the skyscraper ad found on the right side of your site
- To download, navigate to wp-content folder within your site, where you’ll see the two existing .txt files
Part 2
- Using ftp, upload your ads in .gif or .jpg format. Make sure the ads are the correct size for the space they are filling. Upload ads to the ‘wp-content/ads’ folder. To get there, double click on ‘wp-content’. Then double click on ‘ads.’ Then upload your image to this folder.
Part 3
- Open the .txt files from Part 1 and edit the rotating banner ad code. bannerad.txt is for the ads at the top of the page, bannerad2.txt is for the skyscraper ads on the right.
- Example 1 - An image ad
- Example 2 - Using a linked image
<img border=”0″ src=”http://www.coppercountrynews.com/wp-content/ads/cableone” mce_src=”http://www.coppercountrynews.com/wp-content/ads/cableone” />
In this example, to replace this ad, simply change ‘cableone’ to the name of the new ad you uploaded in part 2. If you want to keep this ad, but want to add a new one, copy and past this code to a new line in the .txt file. Then edit ‘cableone’ to the new name of the ad you uploaded in part 2.
<a href=”http://www.isabellas.com/ target=”_blank”><img border=”0″ src=http://www.coppercountrynews.com/wp-content/ads/isabellavictorias></a>
In this example, you would could create a new ad by copying and pasting this code into a new, SINGLE line in the .txt file. Then change the url to the url of the business you are promoting. Right now its ’isabellas.com’, in the video example, we would change it to ‘gilaccc.org’.
Then we change the image name to the name of the new ad you uploaded in part 2. In this example, from ‘isabellavictorias’ to ‘gcc’.
Finishing up
- Upload the edited .txt files to overwrite the old ones in your ‘wp-content’ folder.
- Check your website to make sure the ads appear as you desire
